Sartorius Biohit Liquid Handling Oy is satisfied with its cooperation with Innokas Medical.
Sartorius Biohit Liquid Handling Oy specializes in the development and manufacture of liquid dispensing pipettes. The company is a leading operator in the sector and a global market leader in electronic pipettes. Department manager Mikko Kunnas says being a pioneer requires innovation and quality in all operations.
Sartorius Biohit invests in the quality of its own plants and the services purchased from subcontractors. Innokas Medical is one of Sartorius Biohit's selected suppliers which provides nearly all the PCBs used in the company's electronic pipettes.
"With our volumes it is not worth manufacturing PCBs ourselves. The necessary investment would not pay itself back. Therefore, we focus on manufacturing in which we are proficient and we purchase manufacturing requiring another type of special expertise from our contract partners," Mikko Kunnas explains.
In its quest for better quality, Sartorius Biohit replaced its supplier and transferred its PCB manufacturing to Innokas Medical nearly two years ago.
"We value Innokas Medical because it specializes in contract manufacturing of medical instruments and knows the sector well. The fact that Innokas Medical has ISO 13485 medical certification is very important to us."
A new company; An established brand
Sartorius Biohit Liquid Handling Oy was founded in December of last year when Biohit Oyj sold its liquid dispensing business to Sartorius Group in Germany. Sartorius is an international group specialized in the manufacture of laboratory equipment. It has not previously had any liquid dispensing business operation. The group founded a new company to handle the business operation purchased from Biohit. Its main office is in Helsinki.
Biohit Oyj continues its business as a developer of diagnostics without liquid dispensing products. Although Biohit appears in the name of both companies, Biohit Oyj no longer has any joint ownership or operation with Sartorius Biohit Liquid Handling Oy. Because the pipettes developed by Biohit are known worldwide, the brand name is also included in the name of the new company.
"The pipette and liquid dispenser business continues as before in the new company. Growth has been stable and strong even in recent times, despite the worldwide recession," says Mikko Kunnas.
The company has just launched a new Picus product family. Its electronic pipettes are the lightest and smallest in the market and very accurate. These are all characteristics that customers value and
make their work easier. Picus has already received excellent feedback from the field and has won two design awards: the Red Dot Design Award in Germany and the Fennia Prize in Finland. Innokas Medical supplies the PCBs used in this pipette, also.
