Innokas Medical and its personnel participated in the Cycling Competition (Kilometrikisa in Finnish), which was a playful contest aiming to enthuse people to cycle more. The Cycling Competition started on 1st of May and it was closed at the end of September (on 22nd).
“Our team consisted of the employees of Innokas Medical who wanted to take part in this. Participants recorded their cycled kilometers during the race, raising the total amount of cycled kilometers by Innokas team”, tells Satu Heiskari, who works as Sourcing Manager at Innokas Medical.
Even if there are some prizes for the teams with best results, this was only a playful contest, which mainly enthuses people to cycle more. Innokas Medical has participated in this contest for several years already.
“This year we hit our new record as we gathered altogether almost 17 000 cycled kilometers”, Heiskari continues.
Nationally, there were altogether almost 2900 teams taking part in the competition and they gathered altogether 30 617 387 cycled kilometers during the race.
In addition to Cycling Competition, Innokas Medical and its personnel took also part in the Chain Reaction campaign launched by Finnish Red Cross. In the campaign, the teams are cycling for the fight against the climate change; the target is to help Tadzhikistan’s mountain regions, which are suffering from the lack of clean water and illnesses caused by that, the melting of glaciers and continuous mudslides due to climate change.
“Donation funds will be used to build, e.g., clean water points and sanitary facilities in villages in these mountain areas”, Heiskari tells.
The idea of the Chain Reaction is based on the reduction of exhaust emissions, as every cycled 25 kilometers will reduce CO2 emissions by about 4kg. Every team who took part in the Chain Reaction will support Finnish Red Cross’ work against the climate change with 1 euro donation for every 25 kilometers cycled.
“By the kilometers our team cycled, we donated almost 700 euros to Finnish Red Cross charity work. We also saved on gas with 1200 liters and reduced CO2 emission by almost 300 kg”, Heiskari rejoices.
Nationally, the teams donated Finnish Red Cross with 99 000 euros donations.
“Taking part in the Cycling Competition promotes both health and well-being of our employees. Through Chain Reaction, we wanted to carry out our social responsibility as a company. I am very thankful for our TYKY team who organized Innokas’ participation both in the Cycling Competition and in the Chain Reaction”, comments Elina Ihme, working as Head of Marketing and Communications at Innokas.
